Biography
Wesley has performed and recorded alongside esteemed artists such as Campbell Ryga, Nick Hornbuckle, Lori Paul, Steve Kaldestad, Brad Turner, Cory Weeds, Bill Coon, and many others, and is a regular presence at Vancouver’s premier venues including Frankie’s Jazz Club, District, and Tyrant Studios.
Wesley comes from a distinguished musical lineage. Both of his grandparents, Irene Butler and Les Vogt, are inducted into the BC Country Music Hall of Fame. Growing up immersed in music, he developed a deep appreciation for artistry from an early age which is reflected in his well-rounded musicianship, sharp ears, and attention to detail.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance and Composition, studying under renowned educators Brad Turner, Bill Coon, Craig Scott, and Dave Robbins. During his studies, he performed in ensembles ranging from small jazz combos to large big bands and collaborated with acclaimed vocalist Denzal Sinclaire.
Wesley has also received private instruction from two of the world’s most highly regarded jazz drummers, Joe Farnsworth and Carl Allen. This experience further shaped his connection to the jazz tradition and helped define his musical voice.
With extensive experience in both live and studio settings, Wesley has contributed to film soundtracks, recorded as a sideman for numerous artists, and performed with projects of his own, arranging and preparing music for ensembles of varying sizes. In addition to drumming, he provides background vocals in both live and studio contexts when needed.
Wesley offers in person and online drum lessons, personalized for people of all skill levels, covering a variety of topics. Known for his professionalism, positive attitude, and creative approach, Wesley is committed to bringing excellence, reliability, and musical sensitivity to every project.
